Victoria studied law to prove something, to herself and the world at large. She didn't became an attorney for the money. She wanted to stand up for something, to defend those who couldn't defend themselves. Victoria wanted to prove that she was smarter than all those suit wearing assholes that seemed to live only to make mundane folks' life miserable.
It would be easy to say that she joined the game because of her morale compass. That's what she told herself, at the beginning. The truth was less complex: Victoria enjoyed winning, enjoyed being better than others and twisting the system to get out on top. She wanted to be recognized for her ruthless intelligence. Ironically, she was, but not truly in the way she could have guessed.
Monsters exist. Victoria knows that now. For years, she has been defending all sorts of people at court. Most of the time, these people were guilty, but Vicky is really good at what she's doing, and most of them went free. Most of the time, she was fine with it, resting easy. It pays good money, way more than she would earn as an attorney defending people for the sake of ethics. She has changed as well, and the reputation of a guile snake able to let the court room dance like puppets is well earned. Victoria isn't the woman anymore who just wanted to be recognized for her intelligence. She is a predator, herself. She manipulates, twists the truth, abuses the system. And those she works for are satisfied.
Sometimes, she doesn't rest well anymore.
